The grey areas in the political map of the wider European area were all being hesitantly probed this last month, as the European Council meeting of 19-20 June adopted statements on the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe, and the EU-Russia summit on 26-27 June in Khanty-Mansijsk triggered a start to negotiations over a new agreement with the participation for the irst time of President Medvedev.
